Know what you are covered and not covered for
When you ask a removalist “Are you insured” and they say “sure”, what they are actually saying is yes we have comprehensive vehicle insurance, yes we have public liability insurance, yes we have goods in transit insurance and yes we have property damage insurance. But that is not what you want to know is it? FYI Quick Move is fully insured for public liability up to $20 million & property damage. You see there is no automatic cover for removals, no insurance company wants to insure removalists period, however there is a company that will insure your items for you to keep your mind at ease. Carters Removals Insurance is what most companies use, its a one off insurance policy that you will take out for the particular job. Be sure to check your home and contents insurance as this may cover your items also.
Now are your items insured with us?
Let us explain clearly so there is no confusion, and i will also like to mention if another removalist says this isn’t the case, please let me know who they are because it’s false and misleading to customers, we are very honest and keep our policies up to date each and every year.
There is Two types of insurance we can offer
- Brand New Furniture is fully protected FREE, it must be brought, picked up from the retailer and in the original packaging, and a receipt of purchase is required. Please check our terms & conditions that apply.
- Second Hand Furniture. Optional you must request this particular insurance. It is entirely up to us to decide if we will accept to insure a second-hand item, we will assess the item and its condition first, if we are willing to insure the item we will provide you with a separate quote and issue an invoice as well as the terms & conditions.
It’s great that our customers do have an option to insure their items if they feel it’s necessary, however as it stands without choosing the type of insurance you need, you are automatically not insured, honestly out of 100 pickups we may only have one person request insurance, simply due to the fact that people know they are taking risks buying furniture from eBay & gumtree sites unseen.
Here is something to think about
Buying Furniture unseen from eBay is a Risk, simple as that. If the seller says “no marks , no scratches, it’s purely your choice to believe them, however we cannot protect you from being caught out by a seller that may have told you false information about the item.
It’s not fair, that you get caught out buying something that was incorrectly described, we totally understand that but by the same token it’s not fair that Quick Move takes the responsibility for that either. There are many scenarios I can think of that can happen like even if you did inspect the furniture at the sellers property and it was in great condition, then you left and unfortunately it was damaged whilst being moved by the seller? The seller can easily blame the transport service. So unless you have organised insurance for this particular item with us the answer is you are not covered, we will not accept any responsibility for damaged items or marks or scratches our terms & conditions are clear on the booking form, the website & the invoice.
